St Joseph's

Our Year 5 children visited Ford Castle for their residential. The children enjoyed their time taking part in fabulous activities such as zip wire, orienteering, Jacobs ladder, archery and so much more. The children were so exhausted they all slept well.

For the second year running, our Year 6 boys are the district league winners. Well done boys, we are very proud of you all.

We are so proud of our North East champions who did a tremendous job representing our school at Liverpool Academy on Friday. It was an amazing experience for them all which we are sure they will never forget. Well done girls!

This year, we have collected donations for SVP Christmas Parcels and The Missionaries of Charity Newcastle who create hampers for local children and families facing hardship. We would like to thank everyone who donated money for Children in Need. We raised £306 and the children thoroughly enjoyed the penalty shootout against Mr Naughton.

Our girls’ football team played brilliantly at the Blaydon Sports Centre, winning the area title and qualifying for the Durham County District Final in December! A huge congratulations to all the players for their fantastic effort and teamwork. Good luck for the District final!

The children in Year 5 absolutely loved the Majesticks Little Sticks Golf Festival in Sunderland. They learnt new skills and were inspired by professional golfers.

Year 2 got to go on a trip to Saltwell Park this week after winning the best attended class in the summer term. The children had lots of fun playing in the park with their friends and in the maze and also enjoyed seeing the animals there. Who will be the next best attended class?

Year 6 SATs are now completed. Staff are very proud of all the children for their hard work and effort they have put in over the last few months. Year 4 had a wonderful first 3 day residential trip to Holy Island. They had lots of fun exploring the island and visiting Lindisfarne Priory. On the way home they stopped at Seahouses to go on a boat trip around the Farne Island and went to the fish and chip shop for their lunch.

We are super proud of our Year 5/6 football team who won their league. Well done to all those children who have played for St Jo’s over the last couple of weeks.

St Joseph’s Kidz Zone after school club is now open. Children may stay at school from 3:15pm – 6:00pm (different charges apply, depending on length of stay). The children have been taking advantage of the sunshine and have been outside discussing springtime then coming back into school for their snack or evening tea.

Our school council got the early 6:00 am train to London on Thursday 3rd April. They were lucky to be able to walk down Downing Street and had their photo taken out side of Number 10 with our local MP Liz Twist. They also visited Buckingham Palace, London Eye and had a tour of Parliament […]

We were lucky to have Sargent Dan from Northumbria Police visit Year 1 as they begin their new RE topic ‘Special People’. They thought about special people in their homes, schools and communities. The children loved trying on his kit and asking lots of questions.

We have lunchtime clubs every half term in school. Last term finger knitting was a new club and it was a big hit with the key stage 2 children. Other clubs include, Lego, key stage one and two book club, mindful colouring, singing and football club.

The children of St Joseph’s performed Christmas Carols for their families at St Joseph’s Church. The children spent a lot of time practicing to make it special for everyone. Their singing was beautiful and it got everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Our new Little Jo’s Nursery is now open. We have children who are currently attending and we have spaces available for January. Please contact the school office for further information.

The children enjoyed dancing and playing games at the school disco. They all had a hot dog and enjoyed having some sweet treats. There was lots of fabulous costumes and outfits.

Children and staff wore odd socks or brightly coloured tights to celebrate Anti-Bullying Week and to show that we are all unique. The children loved seeing each others odd and brightly coloured socks.

Year 3 had the best attendance as a class for the Autumn Term 2023. As a reward they got to go to McDonald’s for their lunch and visit the Discovery Museum where they did a workshop on Light and Shadow.

The children raised money for Children in Need by having a non uniform day and Beat the Tiger, children enjoyed taking shots against the tiger in goal (Mr Naughton). Thank you to everyone for their donations.
