Vision, Values, Ethos & Mission

A statement on our schools ethos and values.

Vision

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Blaydon seeks to provide an education firmly founded on Christ and the Catholic Faith. Spiritual and moral principles are nurtured in a way that is reflected in daily life. Within a happy and caring environment, and based on the recognition of the dignity and worth of every child, high standards are expected and pursued. Intellectual development is emphasised and fostered along with the pursuit of academic excellence.

St Joseph’s values the unique contribution of every child within the School community.

Values

We believe that the purpose of St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary school is to:

  • help pupils to learn, love and grow in a Catholic environment leading to acceptance and respect of others in a diverse school community and wider world.
  • provide an environment in which high aspirations lead to excellence in all areas of school life
  • educate and develop each member of the school community by building on their strengths and supporting their weaknesses.
  • foster purposeful relationships with those who learn, work and visit our school where diverse views and backgrounds are respected.

Ethos

St Joseph’s has a strong Christian ethos which pervades our school, binding people together and encouraging everyone to give their best within an ordered and disciplined atmosphere. Our aim is to provide a community that is characterised by joy and purposeful learning.

The Governors are aspirational for the school and together we want the very best in Catholic education for our pupils.  In addition to very high standards, we have an excellent reputation for extra-curricular activities, including a range of clubs and trips.

We have a very dedicated and hard-working staff who fully embrace the aims of the school with our Catholic ethos permeating at the centre of all activity. We always encourage our children to be the best they can be, whatever their ability, and we expect the highest standards in all aspects of school life. This expectation is supported by a very active and effective home-school partnership. People routinely comment on the friendly atmosphere that exists in the school but they also notice that it has a great sense of purpose

Mission

More recently, we revisited our mission statement and considered how it could support our work as a Rights Respecting School by linking aspects of it to the relevant articles of the ‘United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child’.

‘All are welcome in St Joseph’s where everyone is special, cared for and challenged to be the best they can be in our safe and happy school.

We strive to, love justice, show mercy and walk wisely and humbly with God. We will love one another in Christ knowing that Jesus loves us very much.’

Our Mission Statement was devised by the whole school community, children, parents, staff and governors. Our Mission is to send out confident and caring children ready to achieve their full potential.
